Making the cabinet box out of solid wood is impractical for most sizes due to moisture deformation and the scarce availability of stock wider than one foot. Fortunately, plywood was invented to overcome these concerns. It doesn’t warp, can be made in large sheets, and is actually much stronger than most hardwoods of the same thickness, especially where the grain is weakest.

Don’t settle for fake plywoods, either. While certain budget cabinets use 1/2″ or even 3/8″ plywood—or worse, particle board or MDF that have a fake veneer—we use only high-grade 3/4″ plywood, yielding a cabinet that will stay strong and look great for many decades. The amazing part is that since we build locally here in the New River Valley, you’re not wasting money to ship bulky cabinets across the country or importing them from overseas.

Finish carpentry or trim carpentry, sometimes referred to as “millwork,” refers to the skilled craft of installing and creating finishing touches to cabinetry and walls, typically in the final stages of your remodeling project. This highly skilled process involves the installation of decorative elements such as moldings, trim, wainscoting, built-in cabinetry, and other finishing touches that give a space its final look and feel.

Finish carpentry requires a high degree of precision, attention to detail, and specialized tools and techniques. It often involves working with delicate materials such as hardwoods and decorative moldings, and requires a thorough understanding of design principles and construction techniques. It’s one of our favorite aspects of each project because it allows our craftsmen to showcase their artistic precision and creativity.

Some examples of finish carpentry projects include the installation of crown molding along the ceiling or baseboards along the floor, the construction and installation of custom cabinetry and built-in shelving, and the creation of decorative paneling or wainscoting along the walls.
